Glasgow Memory Clinic to support Our Heroes 2017

Glasgow Memory Clinic is delighted to be sponsoring the ‘Senior Hero’ Award at this year’s Our Heroes Awards.

Since 2004, Our Heroes has searched Scottish communities in search of their unsung heroes, to find the people who deserve a special acknowledgement. Readers of the Daily Record submitted a remarkable number of nominations, from which the judging panel selected a short-list of three heroes from each category in areas including armed forces, senior, caring, entertainment and sport. You can read more about the categories here.

The finalists for the ‘Our Senior Hero’ award are Mary Buchan, Sylvia Cockburn and Major Ian Patrick. Here’s a bit more about their particular achievements.

Great-gran, Mary Buchan, 66, incredibly chased off a 6ft armed robber at a local bookmakers where she works.

Sylvia Cockburn, 82, is Scotland’s oldest first aid trainer and she has helped equip more than 15,000 people with lifesaving skills.

For 30 years, 77-year-old Ian Patrick has been in the Salvation Army emergency response team, offering support after tragedies including Lockerbie and the Clutha helicopter crash.

All of the finalists have been invited to a ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Glasgow on Friday 19 May. The glitzy event will be hosted by comedian Fred MacAulay, with music from Melanie C and Craig Ward.

Alison Cranmer, Clinic Development Manager of Glasgow Memory Clinic said: ‘It’s great to be involved with such a prestigious event that honours the extraordinary difference one person really can make within their community. Good luck to all of this year’s finalists’.
